About the artist...
Michael Cutlip:
About 10 years ago, I rediscovered my love and desire for abstraction through the use of collage. Large shapes of color were cut from hand painted papers and layered randomly, creating an exciting and fresh outlook on my art. The process and the art itself have to stay fresh, so I keep exploring and moving from one point to the next. This is crucial for any artist. Boredom is the kiss of death...
In 2017 my family and I made a major move from the SF Bay Area to the Big Island of Hawaii. This of course, completely changed my life as I knew it. Everything changed, my art changed...
I had started to become interested in applying the brush directly to the canvas again. Something I hadn’t done for at least a decade. In other words, the more tools I have in my back pocket, the better!
Now in 2023….I have become ok with gluing paper again! I’m gluing, I’m painting, I’m printing, I’m stenciling, I’m stamping, I’m drawing. I’m doing what ever moves me to make my art. No rules, no limitations, everything and anything is fair game. I will always continue to strive for those new and exciting moments in the work. I will continue the journey...
