About the artist...
Nature has always been a place of healing for me.
When I mentally immerse myself into the natural world, a sense of awe overcomes me and my mind finds its way to stillness. Yet for a very long period of time, solitude in nature was not easily accessible. So I began to paint the peace I found there and was rejuvenated in the process.
As I apply layers, the painting evolves into something new - often far removed from the original scene that inspired me. The process leads me to expressions beyond what I initially envisioned. I lean into the unknown.
With the use of color, rhythm and altered form, I seek to touch souls in such a way as to heighten sensibility, inspire and heal.
Margaret Biggs is a painter whose use of line, color and form communicates the healing and strength she finds in nature. Born in the Gulf South, her art is influenced by natural beauty.
An early career allowed her to live in Europe and New York, where she became familiar with the Western artistic canon. Margaret later studied under renowned artist Kerry James Marshall. She is influenced by mid-20th-century Realism and Expressionism.
Margaret found solace in nature to deal with life’s travails. She artistically converts her experiences to inspire others in their search for inner peace. Her imagery has been popular in the evidence-based Healing Arts Movement and can be found in medical facilities, hotels and businesses nationwide. Her work was a part of the Arts in Embassies program and has been featured in solo and group shows.
